3D GOLF SWING ANALYSIS 

YOUR KINEMATIC SEQUENCE. An efficient golf swing depends on the sequence and timing in transferring rotational energy from the lower body through the upper body and arms to the golf club. Optimizing this movement pattern in the downswing and in the transition from backswing to downswing is essential for developing speed, accuracy, and consistency in your swing. You are the engine of the golf club.

We analyze the kinematic sequence of how your body swings a golf club using K-Vest 3D wireless sensors to reveal key details missed by conventional video and other methods. The kinematic sequence is your swing signature, and it reveals the efficiency by which you generate speed and power. The rotational speed of the pelvis, upper body, and hands (club) are graphed vs. time to generate acceleration curves that show segmental firing sequence (transition), timing, peak speeds, and deceleration sequence. Variations in the kinematic sequence can be analyzed by examining the acceleration profiles of each body segment to reveal underlying swing characteristics that limit overall swing efficiency. When combined with range of motion analysis and TPI functional movement tests, you gain an understanding of how you move in a golf swing and where to target specific exercises and drills for improvement.

 

 

 

 

RANGE OF MOTION. It is the most under-appreciated factor in golf. The golf swing generates complex forces and distinct movement patterns not used in daily activities. Mobile hips and mobile thoracic upper body rotate around a stable lower back (lumbar spine). Restrictions in range of motion limit the ability to create body angles required to swing a club efficiently. Your body responds by recruiting muscles and joints that can't support the golf swing without eventually leading to pain or injury. Knowing your swing begins with understanding how your range of motion determines the way you swing a club.

 

TPI FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT TESTS are highly recommended for evaluating your range of motion and key points of stability. You should know your ability to put your body into effective golf swing positions before you play, and develop a targeted progression of exercises to help your game and avoid injury.

We use TPI motion screens and Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) tests as appropriate. The tests are quick and easy to do, and focus on identifying altered movement patterns that can restrict the golf swing. Our unique report integrates key findings from your kinematic sequence swing analysis, range of motion evaluation, and TPI functional screens.

Efficiency in a rotational sport like golf depends on how body segments work in an alternating pattern of mobility and stability. For example, mobile hips and a mobile upper body rotate around a stable lower back. If limitations in normal mobility develop, the lower back may compensate by sacrificing some stability to make up for the missing motion. This abnormal motion can contribute to injuries in the lower back, and to development of swing faults.

Mobility restrictions are frequent in men and aging players, and may explain why lower back pain is common in golf. A basic TPI functional movement screen is an effective way to evaluate potential limitations that can affect golf swing performance. We can include a TPI analysis in your club fitting and swing evaluation. If you’re serious about golf, our 3D range of motion tests yield a key baseline on which to build your game. 

ADDRESS POSITION. The golf swing begins from a position of static posture at address. A stable neutral setup posture is essential for generating an efficient swing. We find that posture deficiencies and alignment problems in the setup are common and can limit the ability to execute an effective golf swing. We use video, the K-Vest, and our launch monitor to show how your posture and clubs interact and how to optimize them for your swing.
